Liz + Nikola | Chicago Rooftop Wedding | Illinois Wedding Photographer
I love these two so freaking much! Originating from the midwest, Liz and Nikola flew all the way from California to be married in front of their closest friends and family on the rooftop of Hotel Lincoln and I’m obsessed.
I had never met these two prior to their wedding day and I had only communicated with Liz through phone calls and emails, but when I arrived it was instantly as if we’d been friends forever. One of my favorite fun facts about Liz and Nikola’s wedding was that nearly all of their vendors were close friends – their florist, coordinator, musicians, etc. It was a total family affair!
When I first arrived at Hotel Lincoln, I took a stroll around to visit all of the locations we’d be using for the day and ran into several of Liz’s friends on the rooftop setting up. The skies were as blue as I’d ever seen them, which was a huge relief considering how crappy the weather had been the entire month leading up to the wedding. Liz said one of her friends would text her a picture every single morning of the weather in Chicago so she knew!
As I was gathering up Liz’s things for some detailed shots I picked up a big, gold ring with an etching on it. Curious if it was hers and if I should be using it in my shots, I took it to her and asked what the significance was behind it. She told me an incredible story of how it belonged to her grandfather, how he had left it to her when he passed away, and how it’s her most prized possession. I’ll be updating this later to include the full story from Liz because I didn’t get all of the specifics at the time and want to include every last detail accurately. It’s an amazing story, and you’ll see that Liz has a tattoo on her arm of the exact etching on the ring. SO COOL
Another VIP in their wedding day was their pup, Gatsby. There’s literally nothing I love more than couples that involve their pets! Guys, he even had a tuxedo on. I can’t even handle it! See how many times you can spot his squishy little face in this post. I couldn’t stop saying WHO’S A GOOD BOY which was probably super annoying but my efforts to calm down were fruitless (if you don’t continually freak out about a dog in a tuxedo, there’s something wrong with you). He got so many smiles from random people in the park!
I also have to share more about Liz and her girlfriends’ killer wedding tradition they started because it’s amazing, so listen up! Liz and her close group of friends have passed around the same blue hanky at each of their weddings, embroidered with all of their initials and still bearing the makeup smears from all of the happy tears that were shed, as their ‘something borrowed and blue’. It basically reminded me of the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and gave me all the feels.
I’ll be forever swooning over this day!
